How to build a dome in Minecraft
A dome is the top half of a sphere. The base is the widest ring — the same size as the sphere's middle layer — and each layer above it shrinks in stages until the shape closes at a single peak block. Because you're only building half the layers a full sphere needs, domes are one of the more forgiving 3D shapes to get right.
Always start from the base
Place the base ring first and check it from above before adding any height. Every layer above depends on this ring being centered and correctly sized — a mistake here compounds as you build upward, and it's much harder to fix once the roof has closed.
Shell vs. filled
Shell mode is the normal choice for roofs: it outlines each ring, leaving the interior open for a room, a light fixture, or open sky underneath a glass dome. Filled mode is mostly useful for small decorative caps, where a solid dome reads better than a hollow one.
Avoiding a jagged peak
The last few layers before the peak are the smallest circles in the shape, so they're the most likely to look uneven if a layer is off-center. Keep every layer aligned to the same middle point as the base ring — use the generator's grid position as your reference rather than eyeballing it once you're several layers up.
